A stone-throw away from our warehouse is a little 600m ^2 factory. There isn’t any sign outside the factory but inside there are a few shiny bits and pieces:
This particular shiny piece will soon be sent to an Australian who goes by the name of Nathan Rennie. For those of you who are not familiar with the name, Nathan happens to be one of the fastest riders in the World; former Junior Downhill World Champion and regular visitor to the World Cup podium.
The factory belongs to Morewood, the ONLY truly South African bicycle manufacturer [despite what others may tell you]. Morewood have now been making some of the best mountainbike frames available for the last 8 years, cutting their teeth in the international market alongside some of the greatest bicycle brands in the world. Two time US National Champions, multiple South African National Champions and a proudly South African company, Morewood, the joint title sponsor of the Kenda/ Morewood team will now be fighting it out with the best riders in the world represented by two Australians, Nathan Rennie and Mitch Delfs.
2009 will certainly be a good year of dirt in South Africa: Andrew Neethling, Burry Stander, Greg Minnaar and Sifiso Nhlapo all likely medal winners in their respective categories, Pietermaritzburg hosting the opening round of the mountainbike World Cup, AND now in a strange way two Australians will subtly be flying a South African flag [albeit here between their legs]
