The Brits must be crazy!

Respect to British Trail running – this was hands down (literally) the best running I have ever done. Great fun! The race organizers certainly lived up to their description of “muddy, gritty and downright knackering.” Well done Cat, Ang and Grant on organizing and conquering this broodal run with me – respect! All this snow talk is making me thirsty … time for a pint of British Tea !

Rush Sports Cycling

Welcome to the 21st Century… finally!

So, after months of intensive studying and online tutorials I finally figured out how to launch a Rush Sports “Page” on Facebook. Yes, I know, a 9 year old would most likely have been able to complete this task in 5 minutes, and most likely would have been more successful at ensuring the search engine optioomisation of it as well as its status on the infamous Facebook, but none the less, we now have a new avenue to vent, post product info, images, diarise race events and upcomming bike demo’s etc. Simply follow the LINK and click “Like” to be added to the page’s “Like” list.

Formula brakes: From Italy with love…

For me, the Formula product offering for 2011 is one of the most exciting it has been for many years, and perhaps the most promising brand we have in our stable for the coming year. Not only do that have proven product with undisputed reliability, but they have spans of new product waiting behind the curtains for release in the coming months. Watch for yourself to see just how dedicated these individuals are to making the best, and most beautiful product they know how:

Know your brand: Morewood Bikes

Quite a few people have rung the landline here at Rush Sports with good things to say regarding a video interview screened on Super Cycling a number of times over the last few months. I can only guess that is was this video by Bicycling Magazine taken at last years “Ride Before You Buy” held in Giba Goerge Mountainbike park in KZN. This video features Neil Gardiner and myself outlining Morewood bikes and specifically Morewood’s 100mm [4"] travel XC/ Marathon model, the Zula.

A history lesson: Turner Bikes

Many of you may not know the humble beginnings of Turner Bicycles. Its made particularly confusing due to the numerous “Turners” within the bicycle industry: Dave Turner [Turner Bicycles], Paul Turner [co-founder of Rockshox] and Roy Turner [previous Rockshox Race department head]. Having the rich history that the company does, I thought it important [and personally interesting] to introduce the company, its founder and offer a detailed time-line of its products.

Turner 2011 Line-up

Who better to run through the 2011 Turner range than the man himself, Dave Turner. Check out the video below from Interbike 2010 as Dave runs through the entire 2011 Turner range: Flux, Sultan, 5.Spot, RFX and DHR. We are currently running a nation-wide demo tour of the Flux and RFX models, drop us a line to find out when we will be hitting up your trails: andre@rushsports.co.za

Exclusive video look at Industry Nine road wheels

In the article below we featured a spin from Bikerumor debuting the Industry Nine I30 road wheelset. In this exclusive video, Jeff Baucom from Industry Nine, runs through the new wheels on offer including some of the finer details such as the beautiful music they make when freewheeling. If you have never heard a set of Industry Nine wheels before, do yourself a favor and come through to one of the “Ride Before you Buy’s”, stop past our pit and give them a spin, there really is nothing else like it. And if you don’t like it, the answer is no, I can’t make it quieter ;)

Bikerumor give Industry Nine I30 road wheel a spin

Most of you will have heard of the infamous Industry Nine mountain bike wheels, but few of you will have seen the road offerings which this small NC based machine shop have been working on for the last five years. The I30′s are the first wheels to land on the shelves at Industry Nine and the goods lads at Bikerumor were the first to be lucky enough to give them a spin.

Turner turning heads

Flying below the radar is not something I am known to do very often, I am usually the first person to share what I have in the pipe-line, my ideas, plans etc. Late last year however I had a very interesting development that I thought best to keep close to my chest until the time was right to let loose. Thanks to the influence of Dave Weagle of Split Pivot and DW Link fame, and a keen interest and desire for a new personal and business challenge, I initiated discussions with Dave Turner at Interbike 2010 regarding the South African distribution of the Turner products. Initially I had my own apprehensions due to the fact that I have been working so closely with Morewood bikes since 2003, and Rush Sports has been distributing the South African frame brand in South Africa since 2005, however, I thought with the right approach Turner could be a great complimentary brand to the Rush Sports boutique, sitting proudly alongside Morewood.

Sifiso [Skizo] Nhlapo on Morewood for 2011

Pietermaritzburg, a small little town situated amongst some dense forestry has become a mountain biking heaven for a lot of South Africans and International mountain bikers. They have hosted MTB XC & DH World Cups, which are fixtures on the calendar for 2011 again. This small little town that supports anything with two wheels and rides their dirt has caused it to become very popular on the UCI race fixtures.

In 2009 we saw the first BMX SX round in South Africa and was hosted in Pietermaritzburg. With that success Pietermaritzburg also hosted the 2010 World BMX Champs.
