Trans Provence

I have found my challenge for 2012: Trance Provence. A 7-day mountain bike stage race taking place in the South of France, bragging the most single track of any mountain bike stage race in the world. A short, 300km race, with 10000m vertical ascent and 15000m vertical descent. It is truly a “mountain bike” event. With small entries [50 - 60 riders] and extremely challenging trails, there is nothing quite like it in the world. Entries open in December and providing I manage to secure an entry I will be getting my game face on as I prepare for what will undoubtedly be the most challenging event I have ever undertaken.

Pumping: weighting and unweighting the bike to gain speed and momentum on the trail.

Learning how to shift and manipulate your weight on your bike is probably the single most important skill. This same skill gives riders the ability to gain speed in sections of trail where pedaling is not an option, and the basic understanding of this is one of the key building-blocks to better cornering, jumping, manualing and bunny hopping. Check this short video highlighting some of the key points to “pumping”.

Core Training 101

For those of us out there who prefer to take our chances with the dirt, I have been following Bike James’ blog for some time now as he really offers insightful and informative training infospecific to mountain bikers. This video is the first in a series which I will be posting up on the blog and targets core strengthening excercises which will help you maintain your position on the bike through fatigue and demanding terrain. This is a great workout to add to your existing program and you will be sure to see the results!
